Berk Breathed's Despicable Comic Strip

"Comic", did we say? No. There is nothing comical about it. It is not comedy; it is not funny.

Jennifer Roback Morse has written a piece about this "father's day kick in the teeth" over on Townhall.Com. The article was not bad. It was...."okay".

What interested me far more was the reader comment section immediately following. About half of the comments were written by abject moral idiots who couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Head on over there and see for yourself:

Not His Magnum OPUS

You may notice a contribution by your humble blogmaster - by far the weightiest entry of the lot. (I had to register at Townhall.Com in order to leave that comment, but it was worth it!)

Consider adding your own voices, if you feel as strongly about this as I do.

Nobody likes to be the recipient of ridicule and abuse. This is as true for men as anyone else. Yes in the MM there is a good deal of ridicule and abuse throw toward those they don’t like. Indeed some blogs revel in their use of insult and obscenity. Liberal use of the word ‘cunt’ and ‘femcunt’ are not hard to find. Indeed I was reading such blog shortly before visiting you. Those who don’t agree with you are not necessarily moral idiots, they simply have a different view which you can not tolerate.

To say that "X is not necessarily Y" does not necessarily exclude the possibility that X indeed is Y....
-----------------
I personally don't use terminology like "femcunt". While there is no doubt such words are abusive, and intended as such, I find that undifferentiated abuse of this sort fails, in practice, to satisfy my own communicative requirements. When I abuse somebody, I like to offer some intellectual grasp upon WHY, precisely, I am doing so. Therefore, I favor a more descriptive, content-rich approach.
So it follows that I consider "abject moral idiot" a better choice than "femcunt" or the like.

Yes, this "gender war" is a mean game - a person had best have a damn tough skin, that's for sure! Folks with tender little feelings tend to wash out mighty quick.

It is unfortunate that sometimes people who appear to travel under enemy colors will wander into "the zone". And when they do, they are apt to come under fire. Wars are funny that way. . .

But then, perhaps that is the only way such people will ever learn. . .
