To Whom it May Interest

I have been informed that an English-subtitled version of the Russian news documentary (about IGAF) is in the works. And here I went and learned a whole lot of German when I could have just waited! Shucks! ;-)

Postscript: Maybe I am wrong about something here. Perhaps it is only an English translation in document version they are working on, and not a new edition of the YouTube! But we shall sea.

I am sorry when I was unclear: It will be the whole report with English subtitles on youtube.

We are working on it as fast as possible.

Knowledge and language skills
is something that no one can take away from you.

And besides:
A translation can take a while and
one can never be sure of that it will come in advance.

If you learn any language besides English, make it German. Germans are obsessively intellectual. Anything you could possibly want to read, you can find a German version of. It is a tremendously useful language to know.

I'm not fluent in it, but I understand about every second or third word which enables me to grasp the gist of what is being said.Knowing that much German has been an enormous boon when reading some instruction manuals, for instance. A lot of technical information is in German.

It really is a wonderful language, and is fairly simple for an English speaker to pick up.

"Germans are obsessively intellectual."

Yup. That's what I like about Germans. They'll never accuse ME of being "too intellectual"! :)

Off-topic - but I have a question for you FidelBogen:

IGAF - I am assuming that the AF stands for something along the lines of "anti-feminism"?

Is that correct?

Also - what do you think of these men's rights blogs and stuff that claim that the men's rights movement is "infected" with anti-feminism.

Forgive, I wish I could provide a link, but I cannot find it now.

One blog made a really nasty rant about how anti-feminists were in fact ruining the men's movement.

Just a curious observer

@Scarecrowe:

IGAF stands for Interessengemeinshaft Antifeminismus

OR: "anti-feminist interest group".

As for these blogs you speak of: I have not heard of them!

And I really wish you had a link.

But I surely don't see how the hell they could be against "anti-feminism". That would mean they were IN FAVOR OF FEMINISM.

And how the hell could a men's right group be IN FAVOR OF FEMINISM?

Could this be the pro-feminist men's movement that you are talking about?

@ ScareCrow:

The feminist ideology in all its manifestations is the main obstacle for men's rights worldwide.

Being in favor of feminism therefore automatically means that you are not serious about men's rights.

Antifeminism is not an infestation but rather a necessity for achieving true equal rights and responsibilities for both sexes without exceptions meaning the abolition of one-sided female privileges at the cost of basic and legitime rights of men and the strengthening of violated men's rights.

Antifeminism is the tool for realizing any progress for men's rights - without it - your efforts will be in vain and futile.

Again, to both of you - I apologize - sometimes I just start following links - like the list of blogs that are displayed - and I read an article.

I see these things - and I am shocked by them - and, yes, I really did see a blog that said the MRM was "infected" or "infested" with anti-feminism.

I am going to drudge around, and see if I can get the link now...

EUREKA!

Found one I was talking about:

http://cddaran.wordpress.com/2006/12/31/a-vocabulary-for-feminist-criticism-cddaran/

quote:

"Men’s Rights Activism: A movement devoted to improving the position of men in society. While this is basically a positive stance, the movement is infested with antifeminism."

INFESTED!!!

I will keep looking.

@Scarecrow:

That "infested" comment was from Daran, of the FC crowd. It was on an old blog post (on his personal blog) from 2006.

Those FC people are a mite snooty and fussy for my blood. I don't take them TOO seriously, but I concede that they do devise useful arguments against feminism.

The Feminist Critics blog is worth a read, however. Good mind-sharpening stuff there. And for some reason, David Futrelle (the "manboob" guy) approves of them!

Unfortunately, they (FC) don't really know what the hell is going on with MRAs, "antifeminism" and the like.

About half of Daran's terminology list ought to be trashed, in my opinion. The other half is insightful. ("Avuncular arm" is a gem. Remind me to steal it!;)

He says that the Men's Rights Movement is about improving the position of men, and he approves of this. Okay, so far so good. But then he says it is "infested" with antifeminism, as if that were a bad thing. But he doesn't explain WHY it is a bad thing; or at least not in that same passage.

What he did not realize in late 2006 (and maybe still doesn't) is that in order to improve the situation of men, you virtually MUST be "antifeminist".

Manifold said it best, just upthread:

"The feminist ideology in all its manifestations is the main obstacle for men's rights worldwide. . . Being in favor of feminism therefore automatically means that you are not serious about men's rights."

Anyhow, it seems to me that Daran is trying to construct a square with three sides, if you follow my thinking.

On another note: elsewhere on that blog, I saw a commenter by the name of Pheeno.

Well. . there's nothing quite like meeting old "friends" in unexpected places, eh?

Pheeno is a nasty piece of work, a PC feminist twit of the very first rank -- and boy is she ever RANK! I had a little run-in with her way back in the summer of 2006, before I started blogging. Unfortunately, I was unable to prolong the "torture" to its foreseen conclusion because the blog owner (the repulsive Trish Wilson) abruptly banned me! :(

We call that kind of men "lila pudel" (purple poodles).

http://sonsofperseus.blogspot.com/2009/02/die-weiche-mannerbewegung.html

Some of these are will-less followers of the feminist agenda and others may have seen some shit and what went wrong but they still don't want to let lose of feminism as a their tool of salvation.

Your blogger there belongs to the second category: Although more or less knowing what's going on, he still wants to somehow save major parts of feminism and therefore forbids feminist criticism which goes "too far" from his point of view.

These people are often depending on feminism in some kind of way, mostly through their work in government-related institutions or leftist organizations which still rely heavily on the feminist ideology.

We also have these kind of men around here such as Walter Hollstein (http://tinyurl.com/5vxutuj) and Thomas Gesterkamp (http://tinyurl.com/5wqgq25) which partially "criticize" feminism but still accept many aspects of it. Although having been loyal followers for decades, even many of those people can't close their eyes anymore on what terrible things feminism has led to.

That is why they try to just correct the heading a bit to salvage a big part of this ideology while we already recognized that in order to improve the situation of men, you have to toss the whole thing over board.

Purple poodle. I must remember that.

Speaking of dog metaphors, there is a type -- a bit different maybe -- which I call "bowsers". (That's a dog's name!)

Bowsers are the ones who are too "open minded", because they are shallow in their understanding. They seem to be looking for a "happy medium" of some kind, but they fail to understand that this is a very, very UNhappy situation to begin with. . .

They get the name "Bowser" because they are like friendly dogs who will follow somebody one day..and somebody else the next.
