Political Spectrum Analysis: The Long and Short of Left and Right

The following video, featuring Walter Block of the Mises Institute, does a useful job of sorting out the accursed Left-Right Paradigm. It accomplishes this by showing that the paradigm only makes sense when you define precisely WHAT that axial continuum is purporting to measure. Economics? Governance? Religion? Foreign Policy? Socialism v. Fascism? Monarchism v. Bourgeois Democracy? Good v. Evil? If it is somehow vaguely intended to measure all these things in the same swoop, then you'll end with a tangled mess that makes no sense at all. Watch the video, and you will begin to understand why popular thinking on the question of Left v. Right, or "liberal" v. "conservative", is such a hopelessly muddled clusterfuck. Unfortunately, embedding is disabled for this video, so I'll need to send you directly to the channel:

This is quite relevant, as I'm sure you'll realize, to various tensions and debates that are now brewing within the pro-male community.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link to Youtube vido on Socialism and Fascism: A Political-Economic Spectrum Analysis by Walter Block !

I'ave added it to my youtube Economics play list, rather than my Political list, due to the nature of the forum.

And thanks too, for all you do!

Hmm... I sort of agree on sort of the whole thing. I think of myself as most closely comparable to libertarians, but I hold some opinions that would get me thrown out of some of their blogs. My own thinking is that I'm kind of a grocery-store philosopher, I go through and select what I want. If some of my goals seem mutually contradictory, well then "I am large, I contain multitudes..."

Fidelbogen:
One of the worst mistakes made in the pro-male community is interpreting feminism and gynocentrism by this left-right paradigm. Feminism is about gender supremacy and sees these political paradigms as vestages of 'patriarchy'---in other words, utterly irrelevant to their long-term, revolutionary goals.

It doesn't make any difference to gender supremacists whether that supremacy is Right or Left wing. The supremacy is all that is important, its outward trappings are irrelevant.

You're absolutely right. And my only use for the left-right paradigm, is as a rough orienteering device when I am mapping the sources of feminist power on a global, cultural basis.

The one political division that truly counts in the grand scheme of things, is the continually cycling binary between statism and anarchy.

(Anarchy as opposed to anarch-ISM, I mean.)

Everything else is smoke and mirrors or superfluous details.

no I didn't know about the spoof video Fidelbogen, thanks for the heads up. hilarious, kind of reassured that it was permitted to be made fun of on tv. i don't even want to get started on what to make of the original. wow. really, even more deeply pathetic, and in a sense more purely comedic, than the spoof. be funny if it came out the original really was a spoof.
