The Debate – Has Feminism Gone Too Far? – Live in Vancouver

I cross-post the following from the MasculisM.ca blog.

Date: 23 September 2012 3 PM PST
Location: 1315 East Hastings Street, East Vancouver, B.C.
A Father’s Story[1]
and A Voice for Men presenting:

Has feminism gone too far?

YOU are invited to answer that question. Yes it has, or no, it has not.
That is the question asked in September of 2012, by a woman of integrity and courage. She posited this question as the premise of a public debate. It was to be discussed by three individuals from the contention that yes, feminism has gone too far, and three individuals arguing that no, feminism has not gone too far.
Unfortunately, following the announcement of this scheduled debate on the social networking site Facebook, that woman was rewarded for her attempt at public discussion by a torrent of abuse and threats. Some individuals apparently did not want a debate. Not only did they not want to participate, they wanted nobody else to either. Under the weight of abuse and threats, that woman whose integrity and courage moved her to propose a public discussion – cancelled the event.
Understandable as the cancellation was, it was also disappointing. But there’s good news.
The debate is back on!
With very special thanks to the East Vancouver Debating Society, A Father’s Story [1] and A Voice for Men will be presenting the re-scheduled debate: “Has feminism gone too far?”
Chris Marshal the manager of CC Motors will be graciously hosting this event at his business CC Motor Cars[2] – where his concept on business is that a good deal is one where buyer and seller is happy.
The debate will be held on Sunday 23 September 2012, 3PM at 1315 Hastings St in East Vancouver, B.C.
The debate format will be three speakers presenting arguments affirming the debate proposition and three speakers presenting arguments against the proposition. Each speaker will have 5 minutes to present an opening argument, alternating between for- and against postions. Following opening arguments, each speaker will have 5 minutes to address presented arguments. A third round of discussion will allow 3 minutes to address counter arguments, and final statements will be formatted within 3 minutes per speaker, for a total of four rounds of discussion for all speakers.
Following the scheduled debate, speakers will address questions and commentary from audience and observers for 55 minutes.
The debate will be moderated by a controller – and recorded on video to be shared online in full.
Note, this event is intended as civilized, civil, and friendly discussion, and sharing of views. Although individuals may feel very strongly about their own positions, participants and audience members will be expected to behave with cordiality, and courtesy.
A Facebook page for the event has been created here.
To participate as a speaker or to inquire about attendance – please email questions and commentary to events@avoiceformen.com

I really wish they would hunt down these people making threats, and make some arrests.

I see that our old friend Mr. Manboobz is snorting his derision about the postering attacks and other feminist violence in Vancouver. He wrote an unusally long article on his site calling it all a 'Tempest in a Teapot'.

Judging by some his remarks, he obviously read your article, although he didn't mention this blog.

The fundamental argument he seemed to be straining at making was that the protesters' actions were justified since they were attacking a 'hate group.'

Now I'm even more convinced these guys are potential inquistors. Didn't Communist and Nazi thugs always claim that violent attacks on their enemies were acts of self-defense?

That "teapot" would more accurately be termed a microcosm.

And interesting it is, how these teapot/microcosms are popping up in more and more places. ;-)

It sounds like Davey Futrelle is still functioning in point source mode, when he needs to transition to ambient mode. He thinks the non-feminist revolution is something he can bottle up, or "ghettoize" in some tight, constricted region of social space.

It must be spooky to think that "those people" are busting out everywhere, and moving into cultural neighborhoods closer to his own.

As if Futrelle wasn't boorish enough, one of ridiculous groupies left the following comment. I thought it worth repeating here because of what the last line really implies:

'Since meeting the MRM, I realized how vitally important it was for me to be a feminist...Now, I'm in a class about feminist epistomology and dominating forms of knowledge production.'

Dominating forms of knowledge production, eh? I think we saw in Vancouver a foretaste of what they really mean by 'dominating knowledge production.'

A disturbing thing I read a bit earlier. Now, it may be someone else, posing as the person in question, but I read that the lady of "integrity and courage" spoke to Jezebel, and said that she fears for her safety because of threats from MRAs when she cancelled the debate.

I go to find link to reddit quick....

http://jezebel.com/5941876/mens-rights-activists-shocked-that-their-misogynistic-posters-are-being-torn-down?post=52595026

Her side of the story comes up at the end of the article.
I find her commentary illogical due to the time-line of events, but judge for yourself....

@Fidel Naidoo:

Yes, I have already seen that Jezebel article.

Unless I get evidence to the contrary, the episode in question was a false flag attack by feminists pretending to be "MRAs". It was part of their long term strategy to discredit the pro-male project in toto.

ANY time something like that happens, that is our default assumption.

We know that feminists are morally capable of such tricks, and it would only take a small number of them to carry off such a caper as that.

So... would you tell me your thoughts about the timeline discrpancies?

Your comment is noted with interest but kept behind the curtain for discretionary reasons. ;-)
